Teacher Training

Basic Studies Teaching Degree with Major in Biology

The basic studies comprise 4 semesters and 56 contact hours. Starting with the first semester, many written examinations are required. These examinations replace a separate intermediate examination period.

Advanced Studies:

The advanced studies comprise courses amounting to a total of approximately 30 contact hours. The following performance records are required for admission to the First Public Examination: compact courses in microbiology, plant physiology and animal physiology (4 weeks each, full day), 9 excursion days for advanced students for at least 3 different biological areas (four excursion days may be substituted by an ecological course) and one course in technical didactics (2 contact hours).

State Board Examination ("Staatsexamen")

Studies at a university to become a teacher lead to the so called "1. Staatsexamen", the 1st German State Exam (degree level).
The "1. Staatsexamen" is comprised of a written examination over four hours and an oral examination.
