International Workshop "Controlled Charge and Heat Transport at the Molecular Scale"
September 29 to October 1, 2014 at University of Konstanz
Scope of the Workshop
The workshop will cover the following topics for systems at the molecular scale:
- controlled charge and heat transport,
- thermoelectric effects,
- electron-phonon and electron-photon interactions.
The control of charge and heat transport can be achieved by tailored molecular structures, electrodes, or external control parameters involving gate electrodes or light. The interaction of electrons, phonons, and photons shall be a particular focus of the workshop. The light-matter interaction can both be used to influence the transport and as a spectroscopic tool. The understanding of thermoelectric effects, on the other hand, requires the discussion of the interaction of electrons and phonons, involving also heat generation. In this context, light may be used to generate required thermal gradients.
To advance research on nanostructures and particularly on molecular electronics, the comparison between theory and experiment is crucial. Reliable ways to compute junction properties need to be found to make predictions and guide the time-consuming measurements. Our workshop takes care of this by bringing together both leading theoretical and experimental scientists.
Oral and Poster Contributions
Oral contributions are for invited speakers only. All other participants are encouraged to contribute a poster to the poster session on September 30. Posters should be in A0 portrait format.
There is a registration fee of 110 Euro for each regular participant. The registration fee includes participation in the conference dinner at the isle of Mainau on Monday, September 29. Other meals are not included in the price. For invited speakers, the registration fee is waived.
To participate in the workshop as a regular participant, please register and pay the registration fee before July 31, 2014. Your registration is only valid, once we have received your registration fee. Please go here for payment details. Invited speakers are done when they have registered, since they are not supposed to pay the registration fee.
Special issue in the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology
All invited speakers and regular participants are invited to contribute to the special issue "Controlled Charge and Heat Transport at the Molecular Scale", to appear in the Beilstein Journal of Nanotechnology. (The 2012 Impact Factor is 2.374, it is an open access journal, and free of publication charges.) Articles, to be submitted before December 15, 2014, should either report new research results or provide a competent review of a relevant research area.
Follow-up MOLESCO Meeting
Following the workshop, there is a meeting by the EC FP7 Marie Curie ITN "Molecular-Scale Electronics: MOLESCO". It takes place at University of Konstanz from October 1 to October 3. If you are part of the network or interested in attending, please go here for details.
