Welcome to the Zumbusch Group
Our group is developing and applying different techniques of ultrasensitive laser spectroscopy and microscopy. With respect to the methods we use, one focus of our work is fluorescence detection at the single molecule level, while the second is nonlinear optical microscopy based on ultrafast laser spectroscopy. This research is complemented by the chemical synthesis of new near infrared fluorophores and the preparation of polymer based nanoparticles. The group’s main applications of these methods are investigations of dynamical processes in polymers and in live biological cells. Here, the dynamics covered range from a femtosecond to hour time scale. Examples are investigations of structural dynamics of thin polymer films and cellular regulation of lipid metabolism.
